Bell and Telus SIM cards working on GSM?

There has been much confusion around the Bell and Telus launch of HSPA.  From what i know, both Bell and Telus are running on HSPA, but not GSM.  Therefore, Bell or Telus's SIM's will work on an unlocked Rogers iphone, but not on an unlocked Motorola Razr V3.  The Razr V3 does not support 3G, but the Motorola V3xx will work!

I have tried an active Bell SIM in a unlocked Fido BlackBerry Pearl 8100 and get no service.  However using the Bell SIM into a BlackBerry Bold 9000 issued by Rogers works like a charm.

Keep you guys posted!

According to this Bell link, it seems that all GSM phones will work.  It looks like to me, the Bell guys don't have a clue on their own technology.

Telus and Bell launching GSM service at the end October 2009

Bell and Telus have finally announced that they are going to HSPA+ service.  By the end of this month, Rogers (Fido) will no longer be the only carriers offering GSM service in Canada.  This is great news for Canadians as they have been at the mercy with Rogers.  Rogers has been gouging their customers for sometime now.  Since Rogers no longer have exclusivity on the Apple iPhone, Telus and Bell will both be launching it.  Thank God!  Data rates will drop tremendously and Rogers will no longer rein supreme over GSM users in Canada.  This has been long awaited from Rogers customers, who have had nothing but terrible customer service from Rogers.  As soon as this happens bye bye Fido.  I will be switching to either Bell or Telus! unless Rogers wakes up and realizes that they are losing customers by the handfuls.

Unlocking of Rogers and Fido devices will skyrocket as customers lineup to get either a Bell or Telus plan.  Now all we need is unlimited service on everything for one flat rate and shorter contract periods and Canada will be on par with many countries worldwide.

Good luck Rogers dealing with this!

Nokia announces N97 mini - Toush screen and full keyboard

Lately Nokia has been having problems making hits like the iPhone or BlackBerry Bold. Nokia tried with the Nokia 5800 xpress music edition and didnt do too well until Nokia launched their flagship the Nokia N97 and millions of both devices was sold. Now, Nokia is launching the Nokia N97 mini which is slated to be at 450 EU, which is not bad unsubsidized. I love the N97. I think its great. However, I do feel Nokia really needs to step up more before their smart phone market share dwindles even further.

Telus and Koodo Mobile to offer iPhone's next year?

Since Telus is going GSM with HSPA next year, they can adopt the iPhone. Koodo Mobile is a subsidiary of Telus and therefore can also offer the iPhone. Does Rogers have an exclusive? After looking into it, it seems that next year there will be a complete redesign of the iPhone most likely offering HSPA compatibility. If this is true, and since Rogers is not exclusive carrier of the iPhone, the iPhone WILL be offered by Telus and Koodo. Telus will most likely have it first followed by Koodo a few months later. Koodo has been Telus's savor with their chessy marketing and hiden contract(its called a tab, which is a contract in its own) approach that has won customers.

Since Bell and Telus share towers and both are moving to the HSPA standard, it will only make sense that Bell will also carry the iPhone.

*stock tip* Rogers have been living off of the iPhone and GSM. There are a few new carriers coming to market (i.e. Wind Mobile, Public Mobile and Dave wireless). Telus and Bell will be gong GSM. What will happen Rogers shares? I feel a Short coming!

RIM buys Torch Mobile - BB users get a much better internet browser!

Great news for investors and users of BlackBerry devices. RIM has officially purchased Torch mobile. The iris mobile browser will now be included on BlackBerry devices and will make BlackBerry a better competitor to Apples iPhone as the current BlackBerry browser sucks! The iris Browser is awesome!

RIM don't muck it up now

New carrier Public Mobile to start before years end?

It seems that the owner of the G-block part of the spectrum from last years auction is almost ready to start offering service.

Public Mobile:

Formerly known as BMV Holdings, Public Mobile was created in July, 2008, following its purchase in Industry Canada's wireless spectrum auction of PCS G Band covering almost 19 million Canadians in the Windsor to Quebec City corridor across Ontario and Quebec. G Band spectrum is an extension of the existing PCS spectrum in the 1.9 GHz range and shares the same characteristics as spectrum currently used by wireless carriers across North America. At a price of only $52 million, the PCS G Band spectrum will enable Public Mobile to deliver a cost-efficient consumer wireless across the two provinces. The company will commence its services late in the third quarter of this year.

Rumor has it that they will be selling an all you can eat service at the price of $40. Unlimited local calls and text for only $40. This reminds me of the City Fido days which was at $45 wihtout text messaging. I remember huge lineups at certain cell phone stores to pick up city Fido. Will Public mobile be stronh enought to have an impact on the cellular Market?
Only time will tell!

iPhone 3.0 unlock proof!

iPhone 3.0 unlockable 1 day before official launch.

the iPhone Dev team did it again, claiming that there is a new Yellsn0w in order to unlock your iPhone. Its called Yellowsn0w 3.0 and will work on the new iPhone OS 3.0.

The Dev team will have this out sometime tonight Tuesday, June 16, 2009. The official release of the 3.0 software by Apple is Wednesday, June 17, 2009. I suspect this will be only available for iPhone 3G and not the iPhone 3Gs, as the iPhone 3Gs has new hardware.

Jailbreak will also be available.

Palm Pre hacked already?

It seems that the Palm Pre has been hacked! The Pre Dev team has a wiki site that will show how to have root access, tethering and much more. It was going to happen, but this fast? Its amazing to see that we have so many brilliant minds out there. Without the iPhone Dev Team, an Apple iPhone is boring and all the same. Without the iPhone dev team's work we wouldn't have: video wallpapers, customized sms tones, customized keyboards and sounds, themes etc.

Pre Dev Team: Lets get an installer app for the Palm Pre.

Wireless Charging on its way! Charging electronics of the future

Wireless Charging your device will be the way of the future. Technically, this isn't really totally wireless charging as the device needs to be placed on a charging station(table). The true wireless charging is something that Nokia is currently working on. Not using induction technology like the Touchstone that works with the Palm Pre or like the video bellow. Actual wireless charging will be done by capturing Ambient electromagnetic radiation. Give it another few years and charging your device will be a thing of the past, where your cell phone will continously charge itself.
